Wagner Imitation

I dug this up recently. It’s from the good ol’ days teaching Theory IV at Brooklyn College. Model composition was the order, and the poor kids had to try to write something Wagner-like. This was my example for them. As far as gesture and phrasing are concerned, the piece strikes me as more Rosenkavalier than Rheingold. And I doubt Wagner ever wrote as many rasied fours in one minute as I did here. But it’s fun, and I’ve been looking forward to posting it for a while.
